I have recently started my 2 months summer internship at Mazars in India and I would like to share my experience.
As someone who has worked in the aviation industry as airport operations staff, this internship is a transition to a 9 to 5 work environment. While the change was challenging at first, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn new skills and work with a different group of people.
At first, I found it difficult to adjust to the new routine. In aviation, my schedule was often unpredictable, with early morning or late-night shifts. In contrast, the 9 to 5 work environment provides more structure and consistency, which I found helpful for maintaining a healthy work-life balance. While it took some time to get used to a regular schedule, I’m grateful for the routine and predictability that comes with a 9 to 5 job.
One of the biggest changes I encountered was the culture of the workplace. In aviation, teamwork and communication were essential, but the pace was often frenetic, and there was little room for error. In my new role, the pace is slower, and the culture is more collaborative. I found it refreshing to work with people who were open to sharing their knowledge and expertise, and I appreciated the opportunity to learn from my colleagues.
I’m grateful for the new skills and knowledge that I’ve gained. I’ve learned how to manage my time more effectively, prioritize my tasks, and work on projects that require a longer-term focus.
One similarity that I have noticed between my previous work experience in aviation and my current 9 to 5 internship is the fact that both environments are female-driven spaces. In aviation, while there were male colleagues, the majority of the airport operations staff were women. Similarly, in my current internship I am a part of an all-female team who have welcomed me into their team and helped me to feel at home in my new role.
While transitioning from unpredictable schedules to a structured routine has been a significant change, I’m grateful for the experiences and lessons I’ve gained from both. Each environment has its own unique challenges and benefits, and I’m fortunate to have been able to learn and grow from both. I’m excited to continue developing my skills in my current internship and to see where my career will take me next. Regardless of the industry or work environment, I believe that with a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic, anyone can succeed and thrive in their chosen field.
